Checky Watch
What does Checky Watch Do
This app is designed primarily as a time management app. Users are able to enter their journey details (Start and End locations) and the app will calculate the points on your journey, then query those stations against possible obstructions that have been reported on the line.
These obstructions are classified as anything that may slow down journey time, such as broken ticket machines, active barriers or broken validators at the start of your journey; then potential delays, withdrawn trains and other line obstructions as you progress.
The app is community driven, so if you encounter something on the metro that has not already been reported, you are able to inform other users and they can receive the updates in real-time.
What is Checky Watch
Originally "Checky Watch" was a Facegroup group run by users of the Tyne & Wear Metro. Staged as a protest for increasing ticket prices and dropping quality the group set out to . This project has no affiliation with that group, other than name.
We decided to use "Checky Watch" as our project name as the original facebook group, as users familiar with that group would already associate it with information about the Metro and not need much introduction into what this App does.
About this Project
As a frequent user of the Tyne & Wear Metro I saw other users consistently relying on Metro groups and twitter feeds to inform them of the most basic of information, Line closures, broken ticket machines, delayed services. The official Tyne & Wear Metro feeds do very little to inform users of problems on their line and so it seemed everybody would benefit from being able to get this information from one place. The main goal being to take the community effort
You and Your Data
I'm a firm believer in privacy of information, when you use this site or any of it's affiliated apps I will never record your personal information - we simply assign a unique identity to your device when you access Checky Watch. These IDs are randomly generated and there is no way of finding out any information from this ID.
We will record times and dates of obstructions, how many users reported the issues and how long they went on for. This can then be used later by Users who wish to
Why is it asking me for Location permissions?
The app uses GPS coodinates in some areas to determine your closest metro station for if you're making a report or starting a journey. Your GPS information is not used beyond that point.
